Community
Being apart of a community can benefit you in many ways. You can be a part of your community by joining sports clubs, helping with community service, joining boy scouts or girl scouts, participating in after school activities groups, etc.
I am a part of multiple clubs, in school and out of school. My two favorite clubs I am apart of are Science Olympiad and a basketball club called LCYB (Lake Central Youth Basketball). The basketball club is open to seventh and eighth graders who are then split up into 12 teams. The Science Olympiad team is a school based team where students master in a topic of science.
There are so many pros to being a part of a community. Being a part of my community by joining a sports team benefited me since I formed great friendships and I learned the concept of teamwork. This also gave me exercise while having fun, which is the best way to be healthy. When being a part of your community you learn how to work together and in my case, get better at basketball.
If you don’t like sports, another great way to get involved in your community is to join academic teams, like Science Olympiad. I have been doing Science Olympiad since 6th grade and it has been a total blast. This takes vast amounts of time and effort, but the reward is phenomenal. Not only do you have enjoying yourself, but you also learn a topic pertaining to science. We compete against local middle schools in our area and if we do well enough, we advance to the state finals in Bloomington.
Being a part of your community can only benefit you. When you get involved in your community, you learn so many new concepts that schools don’t teach you. I think that being a part of all of these clubs and getting involved in my community only benefited me.I made new friends, got exercise, had fun, and helped teach me new skills from Meteorology to teamwork.
