Community

Being apart of a community can benefit you in many ways. You can be a part of your community by joining sports clubs, helping with community service, joining boy scouts or girl scouts, participating in after school activities groups, etc.

I am a part of multiple clubs, in school and out of school. My two favorite clubs I am apart of are Science Olympiad and a basketball club called LCYB (Lake Central Youth Basketball). The basketball club is open to seventh and eighth graders who are then split up into 12 teams. The Science Olympiad team is a school based team where students master in a topic of science.

There are so many pros to being a part of a community. Being a part of my community by joining a sports team benefited me since I formed great friendships and I learned the concept of teamwork. This also gave me exercise while having fun, which is the best way to be healthy. When being a part of your community you learn how to work together and in my case, get better at basketball.

If you don’t like sports, another great way to get involved in your community is to join academic teams, like Science Olympiad. I have been doing Science Olympiad since 6th grade and it has been a total blast. This takes vast amounts of time and effort, but the reward is phenomenal. Not only do you have enjoying yourself, but you also learn a topic pertaining to science. We compete against local middle schools in our area and if we do well enough, we advance to the state finals in Bloomington.

Being a part of your community can only benefit you. When you get involved in your community, you learn so many new concepts that schools don’t teach you. I think that being a part of all of these clubs and getting involved in my community only benefited me.I made new friends, got exercise, had fun, and helped teach me new skills from Meteorology to teamwork.community_connections

My Music playlist

Believe it or not, my music playlist helps warm me up for games. My playlist includes Hip-Hop and Rap songs featured by all artists from Kanye West to Future. My basketball game improves so much if I listen to my pregame warmup playlist. My playlist includes about 15 songs, but I truly listen to only five of those 15 songs. My favorite three songs to listen too before games are “Ultimate”, by Denzel Curry, “Flex”, by Rich Homie Quan, and “Really Really”, by Kevin Gates. These songs are all hardcore and definitely wake you up before games.

My favorite song to listen to before a game is “Ultimate” by Denzel Curry. This song is a very upbeat strong song that gets me hyped up. “Ultimate” gives me motivation and helps me get ready for a game. “Ultimate” is so lively and powerful throughout the entire song and It wakes me up. I also normally try to rap “Ultimate” when I listen to it to get my adrenaline going.

Another song that I like to listen to before a game is “Flex”. “Flex” as well as “Ultimate”, is very intense and gets you going. “Flex” is more of a mix of Hip-Hop and Pop and it is a very catchy song. This song is good, not only with warming you up, but it is a great song in general.

The final song I like to listen to is called “Really Really” by Kevin Gates. This is a more mellow, yet cool song to listen to. “Really Really” just like “Flex” is a catchy song and both get your energy going. This song is a good song to start your pregame playlist. It is calm yet it warms you up.

NFL vs NBA

0

The NFL (National Football League) and the NBA (National Basketball Association) are two professional sports leagues, each consisting of approximately 30 teams. The NFL and the NBA are my two favorite sports leagues. Both of these leagues are very entertaining to watch and they can also be quite controversial. I will be outlining the points to determine which league is more entertaining to watch.

Football is a great spectator sport because it is so rowdy and it is easy to become captivated by the game. Football has some of the most loyal fans that get engrossed into the game, especially if it is a very thrilling tight game. According to Sports Illustrated, the Kansas City Chiefs’s stadium reached to 142.2 decibels of sound during one of their games!  As enthralling as football is, particularly with its loyal fans, the downside to this sport,  is that the referees can sometimes mar with the game and affect the outcome of the game. Countless times referees have made horrible calls or missed easy penalties, and those botched calls have sometimes resulted in a game that would have had a different result if the referee had made the correct call. On average, every game usually has around three to four bad calls made by referees.

Basketball is also a compelling spectator sport. I love to watch the NBA, particularly when the playoffs start. The fans in basketball are a little more laid back than in football. The games do get a little more intense in the playoffs, but not  nearly as much as in football.  Basketball is nice because even though it isn’t always as exhilarating as football, it is relaxing to watch a game that is stimulating yet less intense. Just as the referees have the opportunity to alter the game in football with bad calls, they also have the power to do the same in basketball. The refs in the NBA have been so bad in the past, that they have been a constant source of ridicule by the media for their awful calls. According to sbnation.com the NBA refs admitted they missed five calls in the last 13 seconds of a playoff game leading to an unexpected win.  Considering the stakes at the time, that is absurd!

If I were to pick my favorite league to watch though, it would probably be the NFL. Even though the refs can be bad in both leagues, the NFL referees are arguably better when it comes to fairness. The NFL makes you hyped and it is always is a joy  when watching a game. Basketball can get very tedious, watching players go up and down the court for countless minutes. Both leagues are very interesting to watch, but in my opinion, the NFL with its fervent and loyal fans, is more entertaining to watch between the two sports.
